Res. 532 to preserve and restore Rhodes Tavern. ix, 882p., b/w illus., original stiff printed wrappers. Major history of the battle between preservationists and developers over this sole surviving commercial building, which was constructed in 1799 and memorialized in the 1817 watercolore by Baronss Anne de Neuville. After court battles to lift the federal order against demolition, the structure was demolished with 24 hours to avoid further legal review. An historical plaque was placed at the location in 1999 by the D. C. Heritage Society.
